Gardiner Fire Department

Rescue Squad

The Gardiner Fire Department has been providing emergency medical services (EMS) to the residents of Gardiner since 1977. The Gardiner Fire Department is a non-profit, all volunteer organization that depends largely on fundraising, voluntary contributions from citizens and taxpayer dollars that come to us by the way of the Gardiner Fire District Board of Commissioners. Rescue operations are under the command of Captain Donna Lyons assisted by First Lieutenant Carl Zatz and Second Lieutenant Stephen Paccione. A team of a dozen volunteer EMTs and drivers staff the department 24/7 with the mutual aid assistance of neighboring districts, Mobile Life Support Services and New Paltz Rescue.

The operation covers an area of 45 square miles and answers approximately 300 emergency calls per year. Gardiner EMS responds to all medical emergencies within the Gardiner Fire District as well as providing and receiving mutual aid assistance. We perform extrication and render medical treatment at the scene of motor vehicle accidents and structure fires. We also provide rehabilitation to firefighters in addition to ensuring the well-being and safety of all victims and responders at the scene. For motor vehicle accidents, the Gardiner Fire Department operates a heavy rescue truck (28-15) which is equipped with various tools and most importantly the Jaws of Life for use when extrication is required. Ambulance 635 also responds to such calls and has everything necessary to provide basic life support to the victims. Additionally the department is equipped with various supplies to support search and rescue operations in areas such as the Mohonk and Minnewaska wilderness areas.

We invite the public to visit with us during Recruitment Day or any of our meetings or drills to learn more about serving our community as an EMT.
